Several months ago I decided to purchase some BKS Leathers http://www.bksleather.co.uk/. No, I haven't secretly won the lottery or Ernie has at last found me a prize, it was a mad moment after asking some policemen what gear they use. Before this I had never worn leathers because I found them badly fitting and uncomfortable.I spent ages designing my suit on their web site and eventually gave them a call and made an appointment for taking my measurements at their premises in Exmouth. I had a nice ride down on the bike and they made me very welcome. Brian takes the measurements himself and by the poses I had to adopt, I knew these leathers should be perfect on the bike. I then spent ages finalizing the design having decided to go for a two-piece suit. There are so many options available. Do you want knee sliders? type of collar, select leather type, style of back of the jacket, style at the knees. Thankfully they show it all on the computer so you have some idea how the finished product will look. After deciding to upgrade the armour and add a back protector and even choosing the style of badge I then paid half of the balance before they would cut the suit and waited 3 months for the call to say it was ready. Now they will send it but Wendy and I decided that a trip to Exmouth was required. So we headed down with both of my panniers and top box and found a great fish & chip shop for lunch full of senior citizens. Probably not a good choice before trying on my new leathers! Waiting in the showroom was my custom made suit. As I tried them on they felt really nice. BKS recommended an EDZ windproof shirt to wear underneath and I can highly recommend it as it keeps out the wind and makes the leather jacket easier to get on. I kept the leathers on of course and rode home via Poole quay as it was Tuesday evening. As someone who hates tight fitting clothing I have to say that these leathers are fantastic as I don't even know that I have them on. They bend in all the right places and are so comfortable. When winter comes I looked forward to trying out my thermal lining, yes another upgrade! They are very heavy but you really don't notice it once you have them on, and they are CE approved. I would have no hesitation recommending them and they are guaranteed for 5 years. They may be expensive but for a custom made suit, if you ride enough I think its money well spent if you can't find leathers to fit you.
