SOLENT ADVANCED MOTORCYCLISTSSTANDARD ROUTES DOCUMENT NO. 008JG. ISSUE NO. 2. ISSUE DATE 10/08/03 Observers are encouraged to develop their own standard routes as there are many advantages in so doing. Section A. Advantages of a `Standard Route`. Allows the Observer to concentrate on observing and not to have to worry about remembering the route. Enables the Observer to make a more detailed and accurate observation of the Associates weaknesses. Enables more consistent marking and better comparisons to be made between Associates. Returning to a `Standard Route` at a later date enables the Observer to judge the improvements the associate has made since first using that route.
Section B. Considerations when developing and using a `Standard Route`. An Observer can develop more than one `Standard Route`. A `Standard Route` should take about 45 minute to complete without stops. This is equivalent to about a 90 minute ride including several stops for comments etc. A `Standard Route` should include, single track roads, both A & B roads, town riding, dual carriageway and motorway riding. Selected parts of a `Standard Route` may be used when necessary. A useful tip when using a motorway is to instruct the Associate to exit the motorway and then to rejoin it immediately at the same junction..
