Further Training and the SAM Advanced Plus Test

This course is open to any SAM member who holds the IAM Advanced Motorcycle Test and reasonably believes, or has been advised by an Observer, that they are capable of riding to an even higher standard and wishes to take further training to enhance their riding skills.

The charge for the course will be £30.00, which is entirely to cover the test fee.

The course will provide limited Observed runs with a SAM Senior Observer. The number of runs will depend upon the skills of the particular candidate. However, they are primarily to guide and confirm the candidate’s skill development; the candidate is expected to put in the required practice in between, which may be considerable.

The candidate will be asked for a voluntary contribution towards the Senior Observer’s motorcycle costs, in line with the IAM guidelines, at present £15.00.

The final part of the course will be a test conducted by a Police Class 1 rider and IAM Examiner lasting approximately 90 minutes. Each candidate will be given a written assessment of their ride and a mark out of 100. A Certificate will be awarded to each successful candidate showing a 1st, 2nd or 3rd Class pass. Candidates may opt to have their result remain confidential.

The syllabus for the training sessions will include:-
